Testosterone Cream vs Testosterone Gel
Cream and gel are not necessarily the same thing. Although both are transdermal treatments, the formulation, application site, dose and absorption characteristics can be very different.
Compounded Testosterone Cream

- More product on the skin may increase the opportunity for inadvertent testosterone transfer.
- Absorption can vary according to the formulation, application site and individual factors.
- Although gels can provide effective testosterone replacement when used correctly, they are a different delivery system from a compounded scrotal testosterone cream.

Why Scrotal Absorption Matters
The scrotal skin is exceptionally thin and highly permeable to steroid hormones.
Research into testosterone cream applied to scrotal skin has demonstrated:
- High testosterone bioavailability
- Rapid absorption
- Physiological testosterone concentrations using substantially lower applied doses than non-scrotal administration
- Peak serum testosterone concentrations at approximately 2 hours in one pharmacokinetic study
- Approximately eightfold greater bioavailability than abdominal application in the same study when comparing the same cream formulation
Reducing the Risk of Testosterone Transfer
As with any topical testosterone treatment, accidental transfer to another person is an important consideration.
Testosterone can transfer through skin-to-skin contact, with repeated exposure potentially causing hormonal effects in another person. Particular care should be taken around children and pregnant women.
Why scrotal application may help
One potential advantage of scrotal testosterone cream over gel or non scrotal application routes is that substantially lower quantities of testosterone can be required to achieve effective testosterone levels compared with conventional non-scrotal application.
Using a smaller quantity of testosterone-containing cream means there may be less product present on the skin, potentially reducing the opportunity for inadvertent transfer. However, scrotal application does not eliminate transfer risk. Appropriate precautions should always be followed as advised by your doctor.
